Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak, is a significant day for Buddhists worldwide. It celebrates three major events in Buddha's life - his birth, enlightenment, and nirvana.
Buddha Purnima marks the birth of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became Buddha. He was born in Lumbini, present-day Nepal, around 563 BCE.
The day also commemorates Buddha's enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. After years of meditation, he attained the supreme state of enlightenment.

Buddha Purnima also marks Buddha's nirvana. He achieved this state of liberation from the cycle of birth and death at the age of 80.
